I don’t really have the heart to keep complaining about award shows snubbing certain series, like “Parks and Recreation” or “Community,” anymore.
So just the facts, ma’am: Neither show nor any of its talented actors were recognized when the Screen Actors Guild nominations were announced this morning. But “Glee,” which is way past its prime, somehow made the cut.
One day, people. One day.
Other notable snubs include Showtime’s “Homeland,” the best new series of the year (what were voters smoking when they skipped over that one?), and all of its actors (no Claire Danes, Mandy Patinkin or Damian Lewis??); Timothy Olyphant, Margo Martindale and Walt Goggins for FX’s “Justified,” all of whom were nominated for Emmys this year; and Mireille Enos for “The Killing” (say what you want about how that show ended — I sure have — but she did a great job with crappy material).
Some nominations that have me scratching my head include Kathy Bates for “Harry’s Law” (really?); Patrick J. Adams for USA’s “Suits” (he’s good on the show, sure, but his slot should’ve gone to Olyphant); Jon Cryer for “Two and a Half Men” (instead of “Parks and Rec’s” Nick Offerman? Puh-lease); and Betty White for “Hot in Cleveland” (I love Betty as much as the next gal, but come on).
And if they’re going to start recognizing actors from USA shows, a few much better choices would’ve been James Roday or Dule Hill from “Psych” and Jeffrey Donovan or Bruce Campbell from “Burn Notice.” Just sayin.
There are some noms I’m OK with, though: “The Good Wife” for best ensemble; its star, Julianna Margulies; “Game of Thrones,” also for best ensemble, though I would’ve loved to see some individual recognition for the likes of Peter Dinklage, Sean Bean or Emilia Clarke; Kyle Chandler for “Friday Night Light” (Coach!); and Steve Carell for “The Office.”
Oh, and a special shout-out to “Mike & Molly” star Melissa McCarthy, who made the cut as a best sup-porting actress movie nominee for “Bridesmaids.” Let’s hope this translates into an eventual Oscar nod.
